    My thoughts

This was a beautifully written book about family, storytelling, miracles and the importance of the journey.

Having spent countless summers drenched from the fire plug, hanging out with friends on the front stoop until our parents called us in from their bedroom window and generally just running amok in a city that we all knew damn well could swallow us whole if it wanted to, I cannot remember a time ever wishing for endless fields and country living. In fact, if the class trip to the zoo proved anything, it was that we all agreed Black Beauty had a right to be pissed. Yet, with all my hoodrat pride (Represent yay-ee-yay-ee) I long for the world Enger describes.

Weaving effortlessly and with subtle beauty, Enger provides in the simplest words an infinite amount of emotion. Although at first glance this book appeared to be a bit too religious and far too much like a Louis L'Amour novel to keep my attention, I found myself enraptured by a tale about about faith, family, and the struggle to maintain hope when everything around you begs for rest.

  • Endearing Family Story

I loved this book. The prose read a little reminiscent of Harper Lee to me. The story of the Land family is very heartwarming. Even the unexpected ending is acceptable due to the rendering of Leif Enger. I will definitely look for more books from this author.
