This was my first exposure to Anchee Min, and I was not disappointed. A great historical novel with lush description and full of emotion without glurging it to death with romance. It also gave me a good overview of Pearl S. Buck's childhood and early adulthood. From here, I'm even more likely to pick up a copy of The Good Earth to peruse. If you like historical novels set in Asia, give Anchee Min a try.
