In these five powerful messages based on verses selected from the first chapter of the Book of Romans, Dr. Lloyd-Jones boldly confronts a fragmented world with the authority of the Gospel. He calls for a renewal of the church and challenges Christians to restore the self-discipline that strengthened the early church.

Although the chapters initially were lectures in Edinburgh during World War II, these rich expositions speak pertinently and forcefully to Christians today.

This book was a few messages preached during the World War II time. Martyn Llyod-Jones believes that all the troubles people faces are related to the pride of men built up in the past one hundred year.

The advancement in science and technologies made man believe human moral standard can be advanced in the same way. But they have forgotten how sinful the human nature were --- that's why the Gospel is a good news.

I think this book is even more reverent today than when it was written - given how people, even Christians, believes in these ideas.
