    A good, old, Clancy

The subplots and the characters, althoug not exceptional, are very well painted and the result is a real page turner!

Do you remember 1986 June 15? It was the day World War III started...

In this early work, Tom Clancy guide us on a wild ride around the World following Russia in his struggle to get more resources and in his war against NATO forces.
From Moscow to Washington, from North Atlantic sea to the Germans plains, politics and military join forces to tell us one of the most exciting story in alternative-history fiction.

Clancy's prose is exceptional since he is able to focus reader's attention on everything, from fast-paced tank battle to apparently boring hours of ASW in the Atlantic. Because of this, it is very hard to put the book down when you started it: it is additive on several levels.

For the sake of critics, if i have to write something negative about the book, I must probably point out that the ending of the book is somewhat rushed. While all the different stories in the book are settled down by the end, the last 2 or 3 chapters should have been expanded in 5 or 6 for a deeper investigation on the new rule in Russia, the cease fire agreement and the fate of all the characters immediately after the war. Also, in the end again, NATO victory appears to be more good chance than tactical and strategic ability.
Anyway, those are just minor glitches in a book that is very near perfection in action and war novels.

Fortunately, never the two Superpowers really went to the bitter end, nevertheless this book is fascinating and thrilling depicting a possible outcome of the Cold war that most of us both feared and seriously considered probable.
