Extremely interesting - engrossing - and well built story. I really loved it.
It follows the stories of two men - a policeman and a criminal boss - who only meet briefly at the beginning.
The point of view of the author is involved but not judgmental, which is also very good.
I hated the fact that it is a 900-page hardback edition - so heavy that it took me ages to read it.
I cried, honest to god, reading the second-to-last chapter. I had quite figured out who the ISI agent's mother was, but I cried nonetheless...
Big, dirty, vibrant, glorious, luxurious and squalid, just like Mumbai and modern India are. A classic cops and robbers novel (maybe not so classic) with the ambitions of a historical novel and an astonishing portrait of a city. Deeply suspenseful and catchy (with a flaw: this edition doesn't have the glossary for all the Hindi words and profanities, but one can easily guess their meaning)...Continua
