    This book is a good read. It is written in the third person and the chapter seem to fly by. I'd easily knock off 10 chapters in an hour, but what I really love about this book is the character development of the protagonist, Jesse Stone. Jesse is a flawed police chief with a drinking problem and a broken marriage. Despite this he is essentially a good man. As with other novels from the Jesse Stone series, he deals with the dilema of doing what is morally right and what is legally right, all while having a low opinion of his worth as a person. This character development is the reason the book works, with the exception of Jean Valjean in Les Miserables I have never found a literary character that I enjoyed more.
