A bit too much description of statues and temples (many of them later destroyed in the Cultural Revolution). In "Ore giapponesi" Maraini has a broader view and an incredible capability to take a distance from his own culture. That's less visible in this book. The description of people and travelling ... In "Ore giapponesi" Maraini has a broader view and an incredible capability to take a distance from his own culture. That's less visible in this book. The description of people and travelling is lively and a pleasure to read.
