A classic . A ticking clock . Very nicely written ( above King's work imho ) and remarkably structured .
It's like an horror Tetris .

Far scarier than the movie.

I never found Kubrick's movie remotely scary, because I admired its formal beauty too much and because he only used the supernatural/horror aspects. I never found Kubrick's movie remotely scary, because I admired its formal beauty too much and because he only used the supernatural/horror aspects. But one thing Stephen King used to be excellent it is depicting the horror in human behaviour. In this particular book, it's the way the couple slowly grow to hate each other and the way they lash it out on the poor innocent kid. THAT is absolutely terrifying. Not the "Wendyyyyy!!!!" spiel.
