Terrific
I consider this book on a par with "The Spirit of Aikido" by Kisshomaru Ueshiba (which for me is really praising it).

I consider this book on a par with "The Spirit of Aikido" by Kisshomaru Ueshiba (which for me is really praising it).
In other words: technically it won't teach you how to practice ShoDo (just as the other book won't teach you Aikido) but it will give you lots of reason to practice it, and will keep on giving new ones even after years of practice.
At the time of writing this I have studied ShoDo for 3 years with a Japanese teacher (http://www.pa-mar.net/Main/Shodo/Shodo.html) - I don't consider myself an expert, but I think I know enough about the matter to assess the value of the book to a practitioner and to a complete newcomer.
What this book will give to you:
Why ShoDo is important and useful even if you don't learn Japanese as a language
A series of advice you can carry out in your ShoDo, and in your daily life
Elements of aesthetics and "philosophy" that will help you appreciate Japanese art and philosophy
How to use calligraphy as a way to better integrate different elements of yourself and your life.
