Having read Q&A (a.k.a Slumdog Millionaire) by Vikas Swarup, I picked up Six Suspects. Six Suspects deals with identifying the murderer of the rich playboy son of the Home Minister of Uttar Pradesh during a party at his farm house. Six suspects with varied backgrounds (a corrupt bureaucrat, an American tourist, a tribal, a Bollywood actress, a mobile-thief and a politician) are identified at the crime spot and the police need to identify the murderer. The stories of the six suspects are narrated separately painting a picture of contemporary India. Finally all of the stories are tied back together providing insight into why all the suspects are gathered at the crime spot and possess a gun.
Although the book is not a very gripping thriller, it still does a good job of narrating six separate stories, providing glimpses of India, tying all the stories together as part of the investigation and keeping the reader engaged till the end of the book. A good weekend read!
According to the author, Vikas Swarup, no one is decent in India. People cheated or were cheated. They called others bad names because of their dark skin color. They didn't help others and whatever they did was only for themselves.

To be honest, I didn't find this book pleasant to read. I don't like books that only talk about the dark side of people.
Continue

What is it after Q&A?

It is something really astonishing and this author looks like the new Agatha Christie: the crime story is simply fantastic.
But what is best is the picture of a Country (India) which seems, sometimes, so similar to Italy: power in the hands of "criminals", poor people just dreaming without hope, money as the only value nowadays.
And a Larry Page which is so likewise to a Forrest Gump which makes me express my sympathy to him.
With an aborigine able to solve problems where our modern medicine is failing.
Now I'm only hoping Vikas will write his third book soon.
And if one day he will win the Nobel price for literature, I'll be able to tell him: I'm probably the first one to have considered such a possibility as a truly future reality!
