Book Description
Six years have passed since Jake Fisher watched Natalie, the love of his life, marry another man. Six years of hiding a broken heart by throwing himself into his career as a college professor. Six years of keeping his promise to leave Natalie alone, and six years of tortured dreams of her life with her new husband, Todd.

But six years haven't come close to extinguishing his feelings, and when Jake comes across Todd's obituary, he can't keep himself away from the funeral. There he gets the glimpse of Todd's wife he's hoping for . . . but she is not Natalie. Whoever the mourning widow is, she's been married to Todd for more than a decade, and with that fact everything Jake thought he knew about the best time of his life - a time he has never gotten over - is turned completely inside out.

As Jake searches for the truth, his picture-perfect memories of Natalie begin to unravel. Mutual friends of the couple either can't be found or don't remember Jake. No one has seen Natalie in years. Jake's search for the woman who broke his heart - and who lied to him - soon puts his very life at risk as it dawns on him that the man he has become may be based on carefully constructed fiction.

Even at the 2nd last page, there is still a twist ! Though I would say that the ending is too good to be true, this book keeps the suspension hanging until the very end. I don't feel like doing any other things except keeping reading this novel. Its entertainment value as a mystery novel is tremendous.

At the end, the author didn't explain why the FBI (or whatever the "powers" are) would just let Natalia go without resolving the issue of her presence when Archer Minor got killed. In order to have the last suspense and/or twist, Jake Fischer went to talk with Natalia's mother, Sylvia Avery, to confirm that Natalia's father Aaron Kleiner was indeed killed by Archer Minor. It's a bit unnatural. Jake could have asked Natalia. Though the author explained by saying that they never talked about it though each knew that the other knew. I have thought when you loved each other, you could be honest to each other ?!

But apart from that, everything else seems reasonable. I've enjoyed reading the calm and analytical mind of Jake at the most dangerous and urgent moments. Even though he didn't always come out at top, we knew exactly what he was thinking and why he did what he had done. This is the first time that I read this author's novel and it's a terrific start !
