Hiaasen does it again: comic pulp fiction with an edge of mature humour, action, and a wacky (but somehow believable) cast of misfits. This time there is a definite environmental theme, and the people getting rich off working the land while leaching poisons into it go to any lengths to keep their gravy boat from sinking.
Again there is a strong female lead and an older, very impressively calm and resourceful in the face of danger, leading man. There are eccentric characters, stories of retirement, justice, and redemption. Hiaasen once again brings the character of Florida alive in his uniquely comic and human version of the crime thriller.
The binding on this paperback edition is wonderful. Pages are floppy and the spine is crack resistant. A keeper inside and out for holiday lending and a comfortable physical reading experience: one notch above the really cheap mass market paperback bindings.

Joey Perrone finds herself swimming for her life in the ocean after being thrown over the side of a cruise ship by her husband during their second anniversary cruise. When she is rescued by ex-cop Mick Stranahan the next day, a risque farce ensues where the good guys get the upper hand, the bad guy is plagued by a long series of physically comic calamities, and the reader gets thoroughly entertained from cover to cover.

If you enjoy reading Janet Evanovich, you will also find Karl Haissan very entertaining. They both have a similar writting style. His novels are full of action, adventure and very colorful characters.

This was my first time reading anything by Hiaasen. I have to say that I was pleasantly surprised. Not only was this a great mystery but it was funny as all get out. I seriously laughed out loud at several times. I had a great time with this book and highly recommend it to anyone wanting to have a good time. This book leaves you wanting to read more by Hiaasen.
