    I read this book in my late teens and it had a great influence on me. But I now think that most of its ideas, while well-meaning, have not helped solve poverty in the third world. Countries like Malaysia have not adopted downgraded versions of Western technology, but have sought out the latest technologies. Same with the other Tigers and Dragons of Asia that were successful models of development in the last century. India and China will do best if they can leapfrog the West.
