But that's not all....

Once upon a time, there was an eighth son of an eighth son who was, of course, a wizard. As if that wasn't complicated enough, said wizard then had seven sons. And then he had an eighth son -- a wizard squared (that's all the math, really). Who of course, was a source of magic -- a sorcerer.

It starts very similar to Equal Rites, but sadly the main character of the story is not Coin but Rincewind (I'm sorry, I can't stand him >.<).
It's kinda weird re-reading the first Discworld novels after having read the later ones: this books are still heavily influenced by pre-existing stories (even though they're far from the almost direct parody that was The Colour of Magic), and while you can see Pratchett's genius in some part, I think he got really, really better with time.

This book is really quotable, though. And it has the first appearance of the concept of knurd ♥

  • Not my favourite Discworld story

A bit over the top and large in scope, this is not as brilliantly written as later Discworld novels, but it's still most definitely worth reading.
