Book Description
Melinda Sordino busted an end-of-summer party by calling the cops. Now her old friends won't talk to her, and people she doesn't even know hate her from a distance. The safest place to be is alone, inside her own head. But even that's not safe. Because there's something she's trying not to think about, something about the night of the party that, if she let it in, would blow her carefully constructed disguise to smithereens. And then she would have to speak the truth. This extraordinary first novel has captured the imaginations of teenagers and adults across the country.

Great book!! This is the second time I have read this book. We read it for the high school book club. I think illustrates well how clicky and snobish high school students can be.
I have always been interested in books that concern issues such as rape. This book is the best book concerning that topic. It's hard finding your voice at times, but never as hard as it is for a rape victim. For those that like controversial issues, check out this top book!
Even though this is classified young adult it speaks to everyone with its universal theme of dealing with and coming to grips with difficult life experiences.

An powerful book about teen depression. Fantastically written from the teen's point of view. Recommended.
I don't think I'm divulging any secret that this is a YA novel about a 15 yr.old girl who survives rape. To say that it is at times hilarious sounds oxymoronic ("Lies they tell you in high school: the dress code will be enforced, no smoking is allowed, you will use algebra in your adult life, the ne ... I don't think I'm divulging any secret that this is a YA novel about a 15 yr.old girl who survives rape. To say that it is at times hilarious sounds oxymoronic ("Lies they tell you in high school: the dress code will be enforced, no smoking is allowed, you will use algebra in your adult life, the new textbooks will arrive any day now," etc. ---as a high school teacher I LOL). However, and more importantly, it is a moving story full of symbolism and eventually hope. Highly recommended to YA females.
A powerful narrative of one young girl's attempt to pull herself together after a tragic event.
