I am used to extensive references in my academic work and none in my thriller fiction, but Crichton does an incredible job and now I need to go to the primary sources.
While I appreciate Crichton citing the research and trying to defend a skeptical position on global warming, the book came across as entirely too preachy without enough plot or drama to hold together as a novel.
People on both sides of the "Climate Change" issue should read this novel. And follow up on Michael Crichton's sources.
good book for the environmental skeptic. After reading this book i suggest surfing around the net as some "facts" in the book have been debunked. Very interesting read.

I thought I'd take a dip into the world of Michael Crichton after a an absence of several years, but I think I dipped into the wrong book. Crichton has definitely done his homework, but his usual integration of science and technology was pretty weak and sometimes I couldn't tell if I was reading a novel or an academic paper. Way too much time on the global warming info - way too little time on a good story.
This one is better than "Prey," but I just can't bring myself to finish it. I think I lost interest around the time Crichton said that a 150sqmi glacier had roughly the same area as Rhode Island. Rhode Island is over 1,200sqmi.
