I finally gave this series a shot and was pleasantly surprised. I absolutely loved Butcher's style. I was laughing out loud at Dresden's sarcasm. It was a complete delight to read this book. I finally gave this series a shot and was pleasantly surprised. I absolutely loved Butcher's style. I was laughing out loud at Dresden's sarcasm. It was a complete delight to read this book. Another reason I like this book so much is that it takes place almost at home for me. I know the area so it really feels like home. Storm Front is action packed from beginning to end and a fabulous story. I highly recommend it.

First in the series - The Dresden Files

An "out of the closet" wizard hires out to solve supernatural crimes. When a couple are found dead, their hearts having burst out from the inside, Harry is thrown into a hole lot of trouble, with everyone after him, including the cops, a mob bad guy, and the secret "white counsel". An "out of the closet" wizard hires out to solve supernatural crimes. When a couple are found dead, their hearts having burst out from the inside, Harry is thrown into a hole lot of trouble, with everyone after him, including the cops, a mob bad guy, and the secret "white counsel". After reading so many supernatural series by female authors, it was interesting to read one written by a guy. It has a different feel - not good or bad, just different.

  • Junk Food

This kind of books epitomizes, for me, the concept of "junk food literature": something you can crave and have a guilty pleasure consuming, but it's not, per se, very nourishing, and you know it while you eat it.

    So, to sum it up...

    The good:

Noirish atmosphere, including self-deprecating humour, some good ideas on magic and supernatural, usually a good pace so it is a bit of a page-turner. And the author can be quite cinematic when describing the fights.

    The bad:

A bit shallow, some of the attempts to reinvent things to get away from cliches (like the treatment of vampires) is sorta "meh" (at least to me). The relationship between the characters is wooden and unconvincing.

And, for the Love of God, AIKIDO IS NOT A COMPETITIVE SPORT, do some research before dropping things like "cups and medals she won in her aikido competitions" in your goddamn book!!!

  • Book One.
Dresden is a detective-like wizard who sometimes works helping the Chicago police.
A fantastic Urban Fantasy Novel, the step one of a wonderful saga.
