Starved by the book. Stuffed by the references?
300+ pages for an extensive but skin-deep overview of the many dark sides - and few bright spots - of the global food system. For example, Fair Trade is mentioned once just 8 pages before the end of the book, and first approved, then criticized in less than half a page.

strident, not so convincing
Oscillates between anedoct and statistics. To convince us that GMO cotton is bad for farmers, he tells us the story of how bad it was for one specific group of farmers in Africa.
What is more, he does not provide us with a credible alternative. It fashionably badmouths the green revolution.
