  A very fun reading and a very nice idea (with only a minor inconsistency :) once you accept Culture Abominator class ships :) )

  Usual culture goodness hooks you in and there's an interesting take on the afterlife. Having read every one of his culture books, there's still a pull, but would like to see something a bit more ambitious. Excession and Player of Games still much stronger.
