Book Description

I am Meredith, princess of faerie, wielder of the hands of Flesh and Blood, and at long last, I am with child–twins, fathered by my royal guard. I am Meredith, princess of faerie, wielder of the hands of Flesh and Blood, and at long last, I am with child–twins, fathered by my royal guard. Though my uncle, Taranis, King of Light and Illusion, claims that he is the true father since he abducted me from my home, betrayed, and defiled me. And now he has branded my guards as a threat to my unborn children.

Bearing an heir has placed me halfway to my aunt’s throne, that much closer to my reign over the Unseelie Court–and well ahead of her son, my cousin Cel, in this race. Now I must stay alive to see my children born and claim my place as queen.

But not all in faerie are pleased with the news, and conspirators from every court in the realm plot against me and mine. They seek to strip my guards, my lovers, from me by poisoned word or cold steel. But I still have supporters, and even friends, among the goblins and the sluagh, who will stand by me.

I am Meredith Nic Essus, and those who would defy and destroy me are destined to pay a terrible price–for I am truly my father’s daughter. To protect what is mine, I will sacrifice anything–even if it means waging a great battle against my darkest enemies and making the most momentous decision ever made as princess of faerie.

    ***Quotes***

“I gripped Doyle’s hand, my hand so small and pale in his large, dark one. But there should have been another beside him, beside me. Frost, our Killing Frost, was gone. Not dead, not exactly, but lost to us. […] Maybe we were going to regain our power, but what use to me was power? What use to me was the return of faerie, and wild magic? What use was any of it, if Frost was an animal with an animal’s mind?”

“He is a white stag, Rhys. Someone told me that he may only keep that shape for a hundred years. I am thirty-three and mortal. I will not see a hundred and thirty-three years. He may return as the Killing Frost, but it will be too late for me. […] He will never hold his baby. He will never be a father to it. His babe will be grown before he has hands to hold it with, and a human mouth to speak of love and fatherhood.”

“You’re fools, all of you. Don’t you understand that I would mourn you all? That there is none of my inner circle that I would lose, or risk? Do you not all understand that?”

“So much death, so much loss, and the chance for more to come. That was the true terror of love, that you could love with your whole heart, your whole soul, and lose both.”

“The frost began to melt against my hand, and I wished for Frost, my Killing Frost. He had let faerie take him away because he thought I loved him less than Doyle. It broke my heart to think that he would never know that I had loved him too.”

one of the most enjoyable of hamilton's books so far. Very full of adventures and emotions, also the story takes a very big step forward. i even thought it was going to be the last book of this saga but on Hamilton website she states that's not so, and i must say i'm glad about it.
I love the anita blake series very much but merry is under every aspects a better story. Better structured plot in every novel (maybe with the exception of mistral's kiss which is good but not perfect), more subsequent vicissitudes, better balance between the charecters, and last but not least to me merry is a much more pleasurable heroine than anita is most of the time.
again the men are all so good and interesting it's difficult to pick the favorite one, while in anita stories i can say without doubt my favorite character is Jean-Claude followed by Jason here in Merry adventure i like them all very much and i totally adore Doyle, Frost, Sholto and Kitto.
i would suggest to anyone who loves gothic and fairies books, and to all girls in general to read this saga because i'm sure they're going to like it.
