A cross between Bambi and Cormac McCarthy's The Road, SWEET TOOTH tells the story of Gus, a rare new breed of human/animal hybrid children, has been raised in isolation following an inexplicable pandemic that struck a decade earlier. Now, with the death of his father he's left to fend for himself . . . until he meets a hulking drifter named Jepperd who promises to help him. Jepperd and Gus set out on a post-apocalyptic journey into the devastated American landscape to find 'The Preserve' a refuge for hybrids.

This is far from being a phenomenal book full of innovative ideas, but the pacing, the narration and the visual storytelling are so good that this post-apocalyptic title well deserves the shot I've given. At the center of the book there's the unusual relationship between Gus, apparently the first of a series of children with animal tracts born after a cataclysmatic event killed the majority of the human population, and Clint Eastwood... er Mr. Jepperd, his hulking savior, relationship developed while the two are on the road towards the safe haven for hybrid children called "The Preserve".
Since recently good Vertigo ongoing series (at least from my P.O.V.) like Air and Unknown Soldier were cancelled due to low sales, with, fortunately, the exception of Scalped, SUPPORT this book instead of wasting time with another worthless multipart superhero crossover. Only an handful of other comic books have characters as well developed as this one.
