  • The Accidental Billionaires: Sex, Money, Betrayal and the Founding of Facebook by Ben Mezrich

As subtitles go, Sex, Money, Betrayal... is the sort you'd generally associate with works by Danielle Steel or Jackie Collins. But, with a website? And a supremely geeky (in its beginnings) website like Facebook? Surely not. And, yet, that's exactly ... (read full critics)

I picked this book up in the airport having been captivated from watching the film. With a social network that has truly transformed the way humans connect today and of course which has affected myself, I could not put down this book detailing the fast-paced life of the founders of facebook. While it is a non-ficton book the prose is written as if it were fiction. The storyline captivates and the grabs the reader in its short pages. Each character involved in the creation of facebook is duly mentioned, each allowed to evolve and give their own side of the story. This book shows that despite the high life and money and the populairty of facebook, this is very much a real story, affecting friendship as it stands.

  • Quite engaging book, sometimes you see the hand of the writer making up some scenes, but for the most parts it is a good book, and a pretty damn good story

This is the book that "The Social Network" movie is based on. Popular trash. I got a rough idea about how Facebook got started, but no more than simply reading a wikipedia article. The characters were stereotypical college kids and the author focused on girls and parties. I didn't get any insight on any of the characters. Perhaps there is no insight -- they were in the right place at the right time, but more likely it was the horrible writing. The most common phrase in the book was: "It was fucking awesome." Pathetic. There was no depth, and not much of a story. This is one of those rare cases where the movie will be better than the book. It can't be much worse.
