  I would actually rate this a 3.5. It focuses more on fast paced action than character development and that does harm the story.   I would actually rate this a 3.5. It focuses more on fast paced action than character development and that does harm the story. I can't really figure out if the twins are meant to be the main characters or not. Nicholas Flamel, Scatty, and John Dee are far more interesting than the twins (who are kind of boring and stereotyped). I absolutely loved the historical and mythological details in the book though. Recommended for readers who love the YA fantasy/history genre.

  I didn't like the style of this book at all. I'm not super fond of the characters either. But by page 50 or so the story picks up, and it does keep you turning pages from then on.
