  • The Art Of Racing in the Rain

In Garth Stein’s touching story, the appealing narrator is a dog named Enzo, who (of course) cannot communicate as he'd like to, by talking with his family. Instead, he pours his considerable heart and spirit into this book, sharing his experiences a ... (read full critics)

  • Book Review: The Art of Racing in the Rain by Garth Stein Share

As the companion to an elderly Australian Shepherd mix (Ziggy Stardust) who is at the stage in life when his hind legs regularly give out on him, I had some difficulty getting through the opening chapter of Garth Stein’s The Art of Racing in the Rain ... (read full critics)

  • A wonderful, loving and compassionate story told with a fresh perspective from the point of view of a dog.
I personally loved all the great metaphors about racing since I'm a F1 fan and I can tell the author knows his racing!

    Loved it!

  • Very good

Told by the beloved family dog---the story is at times heartbreaking, other times hilarious, sometimes both at once. Yes, there are life lessons taught here. Extremely worthy of your time.

This is a story told from a dog's point of view. It's about a seattlite going through falling in love, getting married, getting a daughter, losing his wife, losing his custody of his daughter, sued for a false accusation... but he kept his hope and kept his eyes on where he's going. The dog Enzo supported him through the ups and downs. It's just a sweet story with some heart-breakers in the middle.
I always like to watch movies that take place in the city I'm in. And this book's story took place in Seattle. It felt like I know what exactly he's going through by heart and by my own eyes. I've been to the Bauhause cafe, I've been to the Seattle court, I've been to the north cascades and coming back on I-90 and I've been to Mercer Island. The last part of the story killed the sense of reality but it still was a story that I feel I can relate to.

  • Would rate a "LOVE it" if I were even mildly interested in car racing, unfortunately I can't tell from Schumacher from Senna, but then the book has so much more than anecdotes on the track and its participants, tender and uplifting "feel good" (after a tear or two) book.
