Writing this book had to be very cathartic for Julie as a way of sorting through her guilt and pain for being unable to love her mother or be there for her while she suffered. While Julie grieves she learns why her mother was the way she was and how it had a profound affect on Julies ability to cope in her life and her relationships. Her mothers paranoid anger was a symptom of early onset Alzheimer's Disease. Julie learns that she has at least a 50%chance to have inherited the same disease. She plans to take the test to find out so that she has can watch for the signs of her own unraveling. She wants to have the choice to stop it while she can so she doesn't have to suffer in the way her mother did. Julie has a wonderful talent for expressing her emotions through her writing. She has been able to find inner peace through her work as a lawyer and being able to see past her own sorrow and help other people as a defence lawyer.
