This girl's reality is slowly unfurled to the reader since initially she uses euphemisms overlaid with fantasies and dreams to describe both her daily life and the loss and betrayal of her family. However the soft-focus doesn't last for long and it soon becomes readily apparent just how desperate this girl's situation really is. The Blue Notebook is a thoroughly compelling read.
