Manhattan's electricity grid has been the victim of a horrific attack...and more are planned.

While the FBI and Homeland Security try to determine who's behind the carnage, Lincoln Rhyme and Amelia Sachs race to decode the forensics in order to prevent the next assault.

But all is not what it seems. Electricity can be as lethal as it is vital, and Lincoln Rhyme soon finds he's up against a merciless killer with a unique weapon - one that can be found in everyone's home and office.

Meanwhile, one of the few criminals to have ever slipped Rhyme's net is under surveillance in Mexico. The deadly assassin known as the Watchmaker has set his murderous sights on innocent victims, whose identity is yet unknown...

Lincoln Rhyme must race against the clock, juggling the two investigations, as they hurtle headlong toward their deadly outcomes.

  • THE BURNING WIRE

New York is under attack in a particularly ingenious and deadly manner. Someone is using electricity as a weapon. A horrific attack on a bus leaves one person dead and it was only by pure chance that the death toll wasn't considerably higher. It soon ... (read full critics)

  • Lincoln Rhyme never stops suprising us

In this book, we discover several traits of Lincoln Rhyme's character. Deaver goes in much deeper this time and reveals details that will get you closer to the story itself but also to the main characters.

The watchmaker, a perp that Rhyme failed to catch a few years earlier, reappears and interconnects with the main plot and Kathryne Dance, another extremely interesting character Deaver created.
Very nice book that makes you wait for next Rhyme's adventure!

That made it difficult to keep track of the story or for that matter, to want to keep track of the storyline. Also it was a bit unrealistic. There were a few gra ... (continue)

There were a few grammatical errors which were overlooked - not a big thing, but especially glaring for an author in his league!

  • A HARD JUICE A-GONNA STRIKE

Positively not his best. Three quarters of it rather too hard, filled with technicalities, with little room for characters and their psychology. Harder than any former Rhyme's story. The best Deaver shows up in the last 100 pages, that are really worth reading. The most interesting theme is the depe ... (continue)

The best Deaver shows up in the last 100 pages, that are really worth reading. The most interesting theme is the dependance of modern western civilization on electricity and technology. Not so new, but well handled.
