I read this book, enjoyed it, and then the film came out and now all I think of when this book is mentioned is Brad Pitt and an ugly little old baby. The book kept me intrigued, the film just turned it into an American love story like every other Hollywood movie.

The tale and the screenplay
If you saw the movie and liked it, and even more if you didn't like it a lot... read the tale. It's very much different from the screenplay, somehow harder, a lot less romantic, and personally, after reading it, I thought much better of the screen adaptation. They're both very clever stories
