Book Description

Strikingly original in its conception, ambitious in scope, with characters engrossingly and vividly drawn, the first book in Bakker's Prince of Nothing series creates the kind of all-embracing universe Tolkien and Herbert created in "The Lord of the Rings" and "Dune." [예스24 제공]

An excellent book, the first of brilliant series. An epic fantasy which manages to be original in its setting and wide-ranging and thought-provoking in its scope. The author is (I think) a professor of philosophy and the different characters and factions within the book represent various philosophical standpoints. On one level, the book is about an alternate fantasy version of the First Crusade and on another about the nature of belief itself and how our emotions guide our actions. Superb worldbuilding and some impressive characters, particularly Cnaiur, the psychotic barbarian, and Kellhus, the mysterious 'superman' from the lost North. The book is very dark, with no moments to lighten the mood, but he story told is of a harsh and brutal society. Definitely check this out if you want something more out of your fantasy.
