I read this work because my favorite movie of all time, Partner (an Italian movie made in the sixties with Pierre Clementi), was inspired by Dostoevski's The Double. I thought "OK, let's have a look." But the translation was so tedious, the whole story was the same sort of madness over and over again mimicking a paranoid schizophrenic nightmare.
