Murakami showcases the prenultimate short story. I actually enjoyed these more than his full length novels.

The first story is excerpted from Wind-Up Bird Chronicle. And if you haven't read this yet, well, I guess you will want to after having read this anthology!

  • A very sparse and intriguing writing style had me curiously captivated. At the end of many of the stories I was by surprised by the brevity of the endings, yet not annoyed since the whole story had been strange and curious.

I must admit, I didn't finish all of the short stories although I attempted to start each - it was a bit of hit and miss, most of those I quite enjoyed, but I only wish the stories could be longer to allow it develop a bit more, as many of them gave me the "not quite finished" feeling.

Well, good news is that the first story "The Wind-up Bird And Tuesday's Women" is actually a section of his novel "The Wind-Up Bird Chronicle", so I know which of his book I should read next!

  • The story in this which is a fragment of the novel (Wind-up Bird Chronicles) is so much better than the rest, and left me hankering something more substantial like the novels. So the whole turned out to be merely diverting.
