It is hard to categorize this book. I bought it because it was advertised as a legal thriller, and I like that genre. However this book was far more.
The Emperor of Ocean Park is a richly-contextualized, intellectually-stimulating book. As an ex-chess player, I liked the integral interwoven references to chess problems. Issues of constitutional law and the politics of judicial appointments added much depth. Glimpses into the society and culture of upper middle class black America (the darker nation) were facinating. As much as all of these the intelligent but not pretentious writing style was a joy.
There is much more to be said about why this is such a good book, but rather than my ramblings, read it....Continua
