It took me years to find the courage to watch Friedkin's movie - and even more to dare to approach the novel. In both cases, it was totally worth it. Now, I don't want to sound "heretic" and I have no intention at all to lessen the quality of Friedkin's work - which was and still is an absolute masterpiece - but, in my opinion, a great part of its success is due to the fact that the director has treated the original material wisely and respectfully. I have seen the movie a million times and felt that the book was going to be a lot better. The book was and I was not disappointed. There was a lot more inner relationships that were discussed and in depth that the movie did not go into. Also there is more sexually explicit details of Regan and God that are left out of the movie. I felt that the book was one that I struggled with putting down at times and wanted to continue reading. Another instance where the book is better than the film. I was surprised at how well written this book was. I couldn't put it down. The story follows the possession of a young girl and the priests who perform the exorcism that releases her. I was not aware of other books by the author but I will certainly look for them. I would highly recommend this book to anyone who is a fan of classic horror stories and it doesn't hurt that the story is based in truth....Continua
