For over fifty years, J.R.R. Tolkien's peerless fantasy has accumulated
worldwide acclaim as the greatest adventure tale ever written.
No other writer has created a world as distinct as Middle-earth, complete
with its own geography, history, languages, and legends. And
no one has created characters as endearing as Tolkien's large-hearted,
hairy-footed hobbits. Tolkien's The Lord of the Rings continues to
seize the imaginations of readers of all ages, and this new three-volume
paperback edition is designed to appeal to the youngest of them.

In ancient times the Rings of Power were crafted by the Elvensmiths,
and Sauron, the Dark Lord, forged the One Ring, filling it with
his own power so that he could rule all others. But the One Ring was
taken from him, and though he sought it throughout Middle-earth, still
it remained lost to him . . .

    Ridateci Tolkien, per pietà.

Three rings for the Elven-kings under the sky,

I tried reading this book in middle school and failed miserably.

This book is definitely for those whom are very patient. It can be slow at times, particularly the beginning, but the rewards are worth it. There were some instances were I would be thinking, "Why didn't they put this part in?" or "When do we finally get to this part from the movie?"

For how much I loved this book, I have to say, I wasn't in a hurry to read the second. I truly believe because at times, this book is work to read, like a textbook, and that can be daunting to the casual reader.

  • This is really one of the greatest epics of all time and it's just great I finally had the chance to read this literary classic. Can't wait to read the rest of Tolkien's works.
