This was another great piece from this fairly new author. She has not published anything other than this series, but as one who at first never thought she could become a published writer, she brings such a refreshing outlook on fantasy. Yes, this holds many staple elements to classic fantasy fiction, however, her style, her wit, her humor, and her own world views bring together not only great fantasy, but at times great life lessons. We see both sides of the spectrum, as well as both perspectives of history's peasants and nobles.

This book took on a whole new perspective on how gods work in fantasy. In some ways this book had elements that I found similar to many pantheons of gods, such as Romans or Norse gods, though the author did a great job making them unique and her own style. She seems to take on much from the Scottish history, though some elements seem overall British. I do enjoy seeing the other characters' perspectives, and seeing these supportive characters also have bigger roles, instead of only focusing on Karigan. As much as I love the lead character, I do find that reading about these others, hearing their thoughts, and seeing their mannerisms adds a lot of well-rounded quality to the series. This book's take on avatars for gods is also very interesting, because we see Karigan's struggle against being controlled by someone else besides the ghost from before. Once again, I've been tickled pink by Kristan Britain.
