Reread many many years after my first (and second and third etc...) reading and The Hobbit is still a wonderful read. It reads almost as if it was spoken, not written. Not as dense or detailed as the Lord of the Rings trilogy, but sets in motion the events of that trilogy.

But it is full of light-hearted moments too. It does seem to be more for children, but in this book Bilbo takes possession of a seemingly harmless ring. Sixty years later, it will be a much more serious thing.

  • My oldest favorite...

I first read this with my dad when I was four or five and this book has been a favorite comfort read ever since.
