Una stellina solo perchè, essendomi piaciuto il Doc (e lo sottolineerei, il Doc è l'unica cosa che si salva, all'interno di The host), non ho avuto il cuore di attribuirne zero a questo romanzetto.

Perchè più di un romanzetto non è.
Non lo consiglio nemmeno come lettura estiva, alla tanto per fare qualcosa sotto l'ombrellone.
The host ha tutti i difetti dei precedenti romanzi della Meyer, ed anche parecchio amplificati.
1) Lento, noioso e ripetitivo; era troppo aspettarsi che, alla sua quarta pubblicazione, la Meyer abbandonasse quella sua irritantissima abitudine di descrivere tutte le ventiquattro ore di tutte le giornate vissute dai suoi personaggi?
"Si alza, va a fare colazione, si lava i denti, va fuori a lavorare, saluta Tizio, Caio e Sempronio lungo la via" ... ma che palle!
Dopo nemmeno due minuti di lettura si iniziava a saltare pagine intere, del tutto inutili, così come la maggior parte dei dialoghi, pieni zeppi di "Vuoi questo?", "Sì, grazie", "Vuoi quell'altro?", "No, grazie", "Ah, va bene, prego".
2) Non so voi, ma dopo tre libri con Bella come protagonista io speravo che la Meyer ne avesse abbastanza, della prima persona.
Che illusa.
Non solo i più sfortunati di noi si sono approssimativamente sorbiti un migliaio di pagine dal paranoico punto di vista della Swan in Twilight e seguiti, chi è stato così crudele con sè stesso da prendere in mano ed aprire The host si è ritrovato davanti alla copia sputata della nostra prode Isabella. E, va da sè, ad altre cinquecento pagine scarse di paranoie in prima persona.
Come la Swan, Wanderer (perchè mi rifiuto di chiamarla Wanda, davvero non potrei) è un personaggio privo di qualsiasi sfumatura. Piatto, opaco. Come la Swan, Wanderer è animata da questo desiderio di sacrificarsi in tutti i modi possibili per gli altri, di parare le spalle a tutti anche quando persino la persona più buona dell'universo avrebbe il diritto di incazzarsi, a voler un bene esagerato a tutti dopo venti minuti di conoscenza oppure ad accorgersi dopo quattrocentoquaranta pagine di amare qualcuno per cui fino a due righe prima credeva di provare semplicemente dell'affetto fraterno.
Che altro resta da dire?
A parte la banalità della trama, che davvero, cavolo... dopo la terza riga già si sapeva come sarebbe terminato il romanzo. Cocente delusione.
Ma a parte questo, le pecche si sprecano.
Zero spessore psicologico per Wanderer, superficialmente descritto il legame formatosi fra lei e Melanie - che poteva essere la cosa migliore del libro e renderlo davvero apprezzabile, despite everything - eccessivamente romanzato fino a divenire insopportabile il zuccheroso amore che Ian prova per lei, malgestito il conflitto interiore di Jared, il personaggio più incoerente della storia e l'unico che non avrebbe potuto prendersi il lusso di esserlo, la banalità di Jamie che pareva Jacob Black riciclato e con qualche anno in meno, la super - banalità dei personaggi di sfondo... Sharon è la copia sputata di Leah Clearwater, Kyle di Paul (avete presente? Il lupo mannaro della cricca di Sam)... potrei andare a avanti, ma davvero non ne ho voglia.
Credetemi, evitate.

I should stop reading books for teens and then complain because I'm not fully satisfied.
The host is a nice story, I like the idea of two minds in the same body. I like the fact that they can't be in the same body at the same time.

The host is a nice story, I like the idea of two minds in the same body. I like the fact that they can't be in the same body at the same time.
The feelings expressed are always the same (mostly sweet, unbearable, plastic love), the female character is so similar to Bella, it could be the continuation of the same story. And of course he is beautiful, intelligent, strong and... Edward.
But the style is easy to read, and the story grabs your mind. Sometimes it even gives something to think about, what else can we ask from a book?
(Apart from a better writing or 100 pages less...)

Fantastic book! Rarely does a 600+ page book go by so fast. I loved the Twilight series (classified for YA) but I think this was Meyer's best book yet. Fantastic book! Rarely does a 600+ page book go by so fast. I loved the Twilight series (classified for YA) but I think this was Meyer's best book yet. I didn't read the dust jacket before hand so I had no idea what it would be about. Don't brush this one off if you don't enjoy sci-fi, it turned out to be a real human drama even if it envolved aliens. The writing was smooth and grabbed me at the start and kept pace until the very end.

Tan imaginativo!

Me ha encantado, no tiene nada que ver con crepúsculo, es mucho mejor y tiene un enfoque de la vida extraterrestre bastante similar al mío. Lo recomiendo 100%

a bit slow moving but gets very interesting. you can see some similarities in twilight.
