I didn't read the dust jacket before hand so I had no idea what it would be about. Don't brush this one off if you don't enjoy sci-fi, it turned out to be a real human drama even if it envolved aliens. The writing was smooth and grabbed me at the start and kept pace until the very end.

    • Good, but 300 pages too long
    • 7/10

      (English below)

L'idea di partenza e' molto buona e innovativa. E ci sono alcune trovate molto interessanti. Il problema e' la verbosita' della Meyer: dialoghi lunghi, spesso inutili. 300 pagine di troppo.

The idea behind this book is a very good one. Hat off to Meyer for coming up with that. The problem, as in all of her books, is that you could eliminate 300 pages of useless (obnoxious?) dialogues, and this book would enormously improve.

Still a very nice book overall. And an extremely original storyline.

    • The first chapters were a struggle. After chapter 4 or 5, I just couldn't put it down!
      Enjoyable!!

    • More sci-fi and adult that the Twilight series, it is the beginning of a series (I hope!) that shows the Earth taken over by an alien race and the resistance of humans and the right to be themselves.

    • This was such a great and easy read. A bit slow in the begining but it it all came together nicely. It's refreshing to read something with a happy ending. It may be writen by a YA author but this a great adult book as well.

Book Description

The author of the Twilight series of # 1 bestsellers delivers her brilliant first novel for adults: a gripping story of love and betrayal in a future with the fate of humanity at stake.

Melanie Stryder refuses to fade away. The earth has been invaded by a species that take over the minds of their human hosts while leaving their bodies intact, and most of humanity has succumbed.

Wanderer, the invading "soul" who has been given Melanie's body, knew about the challenges of living inside a human: the overwhelming emotions, the too vivid memories. But there was one difficulty Wanderer didn't expect: the former tenant of her body refusing to relinquish possession of her mind.

Melanie fills Wanderer's thoughts with visions of the man Melanie loves-Jared, a human who still lives in hiding. Unable to separate herself from her body's desires, Wanderer yearns for a man she's never met. As outside forces make Wanderer and Melanie unwilling allies, they set off to search for the man they both love.

Featuring what may be the first love triangle involving only two bodies, THE HOST is a riveting and unforgettable novel that will bring a vast new readership to one of the most compelling writers of our time.
