Rich and famous man gets depressed
What a sad, sad little episode, this bit of Simon's life. Well-writen and thought and interesting, in a way. But so targeted for a wealthy audience, which was was disappointing. When a posh individual gets depressed they go out and shop
uncontrollably. When those "less fortunate" get into a depression they have no alternative but to carry on surviving. This was too intelectual, too far from reality and too hard to sympathise with the main character. I thought I'd keep this copy (hard cover, a Roth!) but I'm passing it on. Unfortunately this was my first by the author and it's left me wondering if all his characters and stories are part of the intellectual elite.
