It was just so good I read the book twice. The language she use to describe things were so beautiful and vivid, I now use the book as reference when i write my own essay.

I teach in a Chinese girls' secondary school in Hong Kong and my students find this book incredibly moving. They come away from the book with a totally new perspective on their cultural identity, on their relationships with their mothers and on what it means to be Chinese and at the same time to be part of a modern, multicultural society.
The book is an absolute must-read for Chinese teenage girls who are going through the process of forging their identities, and the ending is tear-jerking.
