  • I listened to the audio version of this novel shortly after I finished in paperback. I loved learning the pronunciations of some of the words. It was a wonderful audiobook, although it made me uncomfortable at times becasue of the graphicness of the scenes.

  • This book is absolutely riveting! It is a story of friendship and betrayal and utmost loyalty. The audio book is read by the author. I loved hearing the proper pronunciation of certain Afghan words and names.

Twelve-years-old Amir is desperate to win the approval of his father and resolves to win the local kite-frighting tournament, to prove that he has the making of a man. His loyal friend Hassan promises to help him-for he always helps Amir-but this is 1970s Afghanistan and Hassan is merely a low-caste servant who is jeered at in the street, although Amir feels jealous of his natural courage and the place he holds in his father's heart. But neither of the boys could forese what would happen to Hassan on the afternoon of the tournament, which was to shatter their lives.
