  • The Last Precinct by Patricia Cornwell

Black Notice, the tenth book in Cornwell’s insanely popular Kay Scarpetta series, happened to be the first book I ever reviewed for The Mystery Reader. My main concern with that book was that it ended too abruptly, and was in desperate need of an epi ... (read full critics)

  • The Last Precinct By Patricia Cornwell

For the serious mystery junky (among whose numbers I count myself), it is a major event when a new installment by an old friend hits the stands. We comb the reviews, searching for advance news of the latest Dave Robicheaux, Elvis Cole, or Kinsey Mill ... (read full critics)

In this novel, one becomes unusually worried about Kay Scarpetta as she ridiculously became a suspect of killing Diane Bray. One is sucked into chasing the story as a result. Reading towards the end, I wondered how this could end suddenly. But it's a bit disappointing how it ended and obviously, it paved for the next sequel. So, this is how Scarpetta was finally leaving her job as the Virginia Chief Medical Examiner.

Because of Marino's presence, it's difficult to determine whether it's a typo or just Marino's English ?! You can be more sure that it's a typo when he's not around. For example, p.109: 2nd last line: "This a stage cue..." should probably be "This is a stage cue...". p. 311: 3rd last line: "She eat out..." should probably be "She ate out...". p.445: 7th last line "It my mission..." should be "It is my mission...".

All in all, it's an entertaining read !
