On the surface this book was Alan Moore's big-black magic-(gay)-acid trip. Mina, Alan and Orlando show up in London in 1969 in order to prevent the birth of the anti-christ, but once again get mixed up with Oliver Haddo whose not quite as dead as everyone thought. But the book looks at Mina trying to come to terms with her immortality. A Victorian woman in the late 60s, wearing mini-skirts and picking up slang, taking drugs so she doesn't seem square and not really being able to connect with the people around her that she loves. It's all quite sad and the ending has me very worried and I really hope they make another one soon! The references in this one seem to be more pop culture and less literary (though as someone who tends not to read much 60s lit maybe I missed them!) But most of the references I did get were to movies (with the exception of the held over Haddo refernces from 1910). But I really like where Moore and O'Neill have taken the series. Oh and there were gay 60s gangsters. The story at the end had Mina and the giant Gally Wag on the moon and was pretty spectacular, and was a nice light ending compared with the sadness at the end of the comic!
