An excellent debut for a promising new series and a good departure for those who are a bit tired of epic fantasy. This book follows the life of Locke Lamora, a professional thief. Book I read on break-time at work when it was too noisy (or I was too tired) to study. A good adventure book, with a sequel already in the works, and foreshadowing in place (where is that female character we heard mentioned as if we were supposed to know who she was?). At first I was put off a little by the jumping around in the story's timeline, but by the end I was enjoying the asides and history sandwiched between the "now" portions. This book will be a page turner for many readers, and is highly enjoyable. I will caution the future readers of this book that if it were a movie, I would rate it "R" due to violence.
