It’s Caitlin’s birthday. She’s excited to share her birthday cupcakes with her classmates. But what should have been a fun treat turns out to be a problem for Caitlin since the cupcakes aren’t all exactly the same. When a sad Caitlin arrives home, her dad helps put the incident into perspective. The teacher’s handling of the situation allows for an unexpected opportunity for this widowed dad to help his daughter appreciate the importance of diversity, acceptance, and love.

A Parent/Teacher page plus a "Note from the Author" creates greater opportunity for parents and teachers to engage their children in valuable conversations about their own experiences, how they feel and what they might do in situations when faced with diversity and the need for tolerance and acceptance.
