One book to rule them all

Immense... I had always believed in the hands of a master craftsman, in a sublime storyteller. Tolkien in his epic reaffirmed my faith... Tolkien's work is water in a dry place.

I got the Danish version when I was fourteen, and have read that about 15 times by now. The English version I have only read 2 or 3 times, but this book will stay with me for the rest of my life, no matter which language I read it in. Besides, the Danish translation is pretty darn good too

the story is fantastic because it is beyond space and time and deals with themes of every age.
what makes it enjoyable by everyone is that it contains both the mighty of the Kings and the "simple" of the country.
I often think of great battles and of the ancient glory of Gondor reading the appendix.
But the chapter I like the most is three is company: an innocent and merry journey through a beatiful and peaceful land, with just an unknown shadow that makes it an adventure.
There is too muchto say and I will enjoy to have a discussion with anyone very much, so every feedback is most welcome.

  • Re-read

Beautiful. The themes will teach you many things about courage, boldness, honor, authority, faith, friendship, loyalty, beauty, value, and the seductive power of selfishness, pride, and evil. A must read for everyone. It softens the heart and inspires.

The book that hooked me on reading

This is the book that started my love of reading. I've lost count of the number of times I've read it over the last 21 years (over 30, I'm sure). I still read it once a year (usually in winter in front of a fire, if I can). I've made a study of Tolkien since then and can't speak highly enough of ... (continue)
