Just when you think you've read every kind of supernatural book, and nothing can surprise you anymore... Laurell K. Hamilton delivers again! This series gets progressively better with each book I read. I can't wait to read the next one.

I enjoyed reading the fourth novel by LKH pretty much, even if I think it to be a little less balanced than “Circus of the Damned” (the best so far, in my opinion). The plot is a bit confused and slow, so the action and thrills loose grip here and there. Also Anita’s love affairs don’t fit in as good as they usually do: the scenes seem to be put on the pages to scratch the reader’s predictable itch of lust and do not come smoothly as a natural development of the story.
I am not a lycanthrope fan as I found vampires much more intriguing and sexually attractive, even though I appreciate the shapeshifters in general, felines in particular, but I have to say the characters in this novel are well presented and actually match my idea of these creatures. I admit I am becoming addicted and can’t wait to go on with the saga.

I'm still enjoying this series. I enjoy the local St. Louis references. Being familiar with the actual real-life settings of many of the scenes in the book really helps to make them all the more vivid. And I especially appreciate that the monsters still sometimes behave like monsters instead of just charming romantic male leads.
