I usually don't read historical novels because they simply are not my thing, but I had to read this as a school assignement and I must say I was impressed by how interataining this book is. After a mediocre beginning, it soon turned into a page-turner novel, making me feel completely immersed in Amsterdam's 17th century atmosphere.
This is story of prejudice, death and hard times, but it is at the same time a narration of redemption and female power, something whose importance in ancient times we ofter underestimate.
I appreciated the Dutch context and the author's research work.
Scritto talmente male da essere imbarazzante. Trama e personaggi inconsistenti. Non l ho abbandonato solo per capire se ad un certo punto recuperava. non è successo.
