The Mystery of Edwin Drood (Penguin Classics)Blog this item
    • Excellent story. Sadly, Dickens' last. The edition I have (which is not listed, so I chose a paperback of comparable quality) contained Dickens' notes about the eventual out-come of the plot. Too brief a treat, as the saying goes.

Book Description

Paul Scofield, one of Britain's most distinguished actors, captures the haunting, occasionally humorous atmosphere and the many colorful characters in this unusual crime novel. Dickens' novel is even more mystifying than he intended, for he died before the work was complete.

When young Drood mysteriously disappears from his quiet cathedral town of Cloisterham, foul play seems certain. The prime suspect, John Jasper, Edwin's uncle, frequents opium dens and conceals a secret passion beneath his church choir respectability. Who did it?
