I don't this story really needed 1600 pages, but it was still good. It corrected a lot of faults that most epic fantasy suffers- actions have costs, things go wrong that cannot be fixed, even the wise guardians get things wrong, and the BBEG doesn't get up every morning thinking about how many pupp ... I don't this story really needed 1600 pages, but it was still good. It corrected a lot of faults that most epic fantasy suffers- actions have costs, things go wrong that cannot be fixed, even the wise guardians get things wrong, and the BBEG doesn't get up every morning thinking about how many puppies he wants to torture today.
