I "read" this as an audio-book and must say the story is beautiful and very inspirational for me as a former painter, but the narrator, Gigi Bermingham, got on my nerves. I didn't always agree with her interpretation of a character's tone of voice and her range of tones is quite limited. Overall, ... (continue)

It's really sad that the women painters that came to be do not get as much attention as their male counterparts. I discovered Artemisia whose works I will surely be looking out on my next visit to The Metropolitan Museum.
Artemisia Gentileschi was a baroque painter who lived during the last days of the Medici and was a contemporary of Galileo. She painted as beautifully as Caravaggio. And she had to make a living for herself and her daughters. Not an easy feat considering that she was... just a woman.
Once again Susan Vreeland painted another masterpiece... a story about a very talented artist, an amazing woman - flawed but so human. If you love art and beauty, if you have a passionate heart, read this magnificent book.
